THE HERO THAT GAVE THE AVERAGE JOE A REASON TO BELIEVE
As the summer of 2009 comes closer to its end and just before the cool autumn breeze sweeps through the latter part of the calender, one man’s winter came too soon.
Everyone has a hero they look up to. It could be their mom’s, dad’s, brother’s, sisters, spiderman, etc. For me, as it has been since 2000, that hero has of mine has always been ANDY RODDICK. I am not afraid nor ashamed to admit. It is a fact. He is my hero. In fact I would go around shouting out loud in the person who gives me a reason to believe.
Sure he is no Swiss Genius, not some Raging Spanish Bull, or any Serbian ID)joker. But he is a fighter. He never gave up though the rest of the world did. He continued on. He lives and breathes in a world where a little slip up and the media would chew you up and spit you right out.
He trudged on. Tough as it may be. But he never let it get in his way. He is no quitter and things may not be going for him but he NEVER, NEVER GAVE UP! He continued fighting and believing that he could. And he did.
Yes, Wimbledon 2009 was probably the biggest heartbreak to any one so passionate for what he does. Yet he is still humble in defeat (and even more in victory). His wit and charm triumphs what he “fell short on”. Anybody who has never seen or heard an Andy Roddick post-match interview is missing out a lot in entertainment value. His mutual respect for his tennis peers and love for the game gives average joe’s like us an even bigger reason to believe that we could do it. We can be great.
He may have lost a real tear-jerker of a match that Wimbledon 2009. But he won the hearts of the nation. No I take that back. He won the hearts of the world.

Yes you can continue supporting your Roger Federer’s and Rafael Nadal’s out there but don’t forget, Andy Roddick is the only other player other than Roger Federer to be in the world’s top 10 every year for the past decade. Don’t forget, Andy Roddick is the only other player other than Lleyton Hewitt to win at least one singles title every year in the past decade. Andy Roddick has been to no.1 (Something Djokovic has not reached… not even runner’s up position), he has already won a grand slam (Andy Murray hasn’t done it yet).
If you really want to start comparing a player on how great he is on his achivements than there is no fault. But don’t discredit a player who has been equally consistent and perhaps just a tad unlucky just because he hasn’t won 10000000000 grandslams or has arms the size of New Zealand.
Yes Roddick may not have won 100000000000 grand slams in his career. But what he brought to people is far more than what $5000000000000 million in prize money can give. He brings to people a reason of hope, of believe, of never giving up.
You live your life not the way what others want from you but from what you want from yourself. You live your life wearing your heart on your sleeves. Passion.
It’s called Passion.
And Andy Roddick is passion.

Though the 2009 Wimbledon final has been over for quite awhile, the amazing athlete that is Andy Roddick and his heartbreaking loss continues to dominate the tennis news till now.
And I found this whilst surfing the net and along with many other magazine and interviews, Roddick is still one of the greatest competitors in Tennis. Fan or no fan.
